Art as a Challenge

Rosenthal entered the path to art at the beginning of the 1960s. In collaboration with famous artists wall reliefs and objects of porcelain were created, which were first presented to the public in 1964 during the third "documenta". The limited art edition has been continued and extended up to now and comprises, next to reliefs and free objects of glass, ceramics or furniture solitaires, also décors designed by artists.

The number of artists Rosenthal has collaborated with just for this project amounts to approximately 100 artists from all over the world. You will find more information in the rubric designer portraits: Designer for Rosenthal. The overview of the limited art edition gives detailed information on each of the more than 400 pieces of art, listed according to title. In 2003 Philip Rosenthal was credited special honours posthumously, when former artist friends designed or dedicated a piece of art to him within the new limited art edition called "Hommage | Philip Rosenthal".

"Porcelain ceased to be respectable in terms of art.Philip Rosenthal made a change to it and Arnold Bode assisted him; he discovered a chance for the sculptor, too, to make a claim for wider propagation" via porcelain'."
