Special edition “300 years of porcelain in

Europe”

“Geishas’ Garden“

To mark the anniversary Rosenthal gives an insight into the over 130-year history of the company: The Art Nouveau form “Balmoral” originates from the Rosenthal archives and is now available as a limited special edition with the new décor “Geishas’ Garden”. The design, which dates back to 1916, is characterised by oval, smooth bulbous hollow forms with reliefs on button-shaped knobs, spouts and handles. The décor is inspired by exotic faraway countries - Asian figures tell stories from the Geishas’ Garden in an intense colourfulness.
Since its beginning, European porcelain production has depicted its fascination for its Asian roots both on all kinds of receptacles and in the area of figurines. Chinese motifs formed the central theme of the first century of European porcelain history. These Chinoiseries generally reflect the opinion that dominated in Europe at that time that life is faraway China or Japan was amusing, carefree and unconventional and as such an alternative to the social fabric of the western world worth striving for.
The tea service “Geishas’ Garden” is complemented by various gift articles: A porcelain tray, a jar with a silk cord or trumpet vases with Chinese ink drawings. Valuable, hand-painted figures such as a Samurai, an Asian temple dog or a Buddha bring the Geishas’ Garden to life and demonstrate the skilled craftsmanship of the porcelain formers and painters at Rosenthal.
