Facade Rosenthal Studio-Häuser Berlin, Paris & Dusseldorf

Artist:            Victor Vasarely
Completion: Berlin 1978, Paris 1980, Dusseldorf 1981

Rosenthal Studio-Houses – the world’s first "design store chain" (Dumont "Design Lexikon Deutschland") – are exclusively selling design and art oriented merchandise for the interior. Originally, a jury selected the assortment out of products that were part of the Group 21. Therefore it was only natural to engage an artist to design the façades in order to have a long distance effect reflecting the purpose of the business.

Victor Vasarely designed facades for three Studio-Houses in his unique and unmistakable style. These precious facades were composed of thousands of square porcelain tiles and reflected the artist’s own Rosenthal designs. Vasarely’s works were part of Rosenthal’s contribution to the project "Art in the City". Unfortunately none of these facades exist anymore.
