Since the 1950s Timo Sarpaneva, painter, graphic designer and designer, has been one the most important representatives of Scandinavian arts and crafts. Next to designs for the daily use he deals with the artistic possibilities of glass - freed from the limitations of functional design - as a medium for the sculptor. Sarpaneva has been working for Rosenthal since 1968. His table-service »Suomi« is one of the most successful porcelain forms worldwide, the ceramics table-service »Kaari« was another highlight of the Rosenthal product range. »Suomi« has been accepted into the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris as an example for contemporary design.
